Trading secondhand in the Ayeyarwady Delta: tips for Pathein and village deals
The Ayeyarwady Delta is Myanmar's rice bowl. Farm schedules set the rhythm of life, so demand and prices for used goods swing with the seasons.

Demand set by the farming calendar
Before planting and harvest, water pumps, tiller parts and generators are wanted. After harvest, cash circulates and motorbike and appliance purchases pick up.
For farm machinery a video is not enough — run it yourself on site if you can.
Rains and transport
In the rainy season roads flood or turn to mud. Trade large items in the dry season, or consider sending them by boat.
High humidity corrodes electronics, so check the back panel and battery contacts.
Village deal tips
- Check whether there is a mobile-wallet agent nearby; if not, prepare to pay cash.
- Pathein's market area or a village-centre teashop are good meetup points.
- Many deals start through referrals, but keep the terms in the Near Dee chat.
