Moving in Yangon: selling before you go, transport and what to buy secondhand
Leases in Yangon usually run six months to a year, so moves bunch up at certain times. Once the date is set, splitting items into 'take' and 'sell' saves the most time and money.

When to start selling
List large furniture and appliances three to four weeks ahead. For things you need until the end, such as a fridge or air conditioner, write 'handover on moving day' so buyers can plan.
Prices drop in the last week as rushed sales pile up, so selling early at a fair price works better.
Getting transport ready
- Small trucks and helpers are usually found through local movers or referrals; give the floor number and whether there is a lift when asking for a quote.
- Many older blocks have no lift, which can add a stairs charge.
- Lifts may stop during power cuts — ask the management when the generator runs.
Good things to buy used for the new home
Fans, water dispensers, storage units and kitchenware vary little in quality when bought used. Mattresses and air conditioners need careful checks.
In areas with frequent outages, an inverter or rechargeable lights make the first week much easier.
