Warranty and repairs when buying used electronics in Myanmar

Myanmar's electronics market mixes officially distributed products with parallel and cross-border imports. The same model may carry different warranty and repair terms, so check where a used item came from first.

    Official stock versus parallel imports

Official-distributor products can often be repaired at the service centre for the remaining warranty period if there is a receipt or warranty card. Parallel imports may have no local warranty, or only a shop warranty.

Ask the seller where and when it was bought, and for a photo of the receipt or warranty card.

For phones, start with the IMEI

Check that the IMEI in settings (or via *#06#) matches the box and receipt. Unregistered devices may be restricted on Myanmar networks, so insert a SIM and test calls and data on the spot.

    Repairs and voltage

    • Ask a local repair shop for battery and screen prices by model in advance; it helps negotiation.
    • Voltage is unstable in many areas, so fridges and air conditioners are usually used with a stabiliser. Ask whether the seller will include theirs.
    • If the power section smells burnt or a fuse has been replaced, ask why.
